Upcoming Elections

Two elections. Two chances to vote. Make a plan now.

Local Elections:

Also called the May Joint & Special Election

No party labels. Vote for local leaders in your city like mayor, city council, school board, and local bonds.

Early Voting: April 20 – April 28

Election Day: Saturday, May 2

Primary Runoff:

primary runoff decides a party’s candidate when no one got a majority in the March primary.

Voters choose between the top two candidates from the March primary.

Early Voting: May 18 – May 22
Election Day: Tuesday, May 26

Runoff Voting Rules (Important)

  • If you voted in the Democratic Primary, you can only vote in the Democratic runoff.
  • If you did not vote in March, you can still vote in the runoff.
  • Runoff elections determine who moves on to the November ballot.

Runoffs often come down to very small margins — every vote matters.

Both elections matter. Make a plan to vote in both.

In Texas, the May Joint & Special Election is a key opportunity for voters to participate in local governance by selecting officials such as city council members, school board trustees, and other municipal representatives. These elected officials play a crucial role in addressing local needs, from education to public safety and community development.

📍 LOCAL RACES — BY CITY/ISD

The Dallas County Democratic Party (DCDP) Local Elections Committee (LEC) was only able to evaluate a handful of races this cycle, as there were not enough volunteers signed up to evaluate every local race. For cities and ISD races not evaluated, we encourage you to review the League of Women Voters Guide for candidate information and explanations on propositions:
LWVDallas.org/voters_guide

The DCDP LEC, composed of precinct chairs and community leaders, evaluated candidates using a structured grading system. In order to stay in compliance with the Texas Ethics Commission, the DCDP LEC issues grades, not endorsements. Each candidate was reviewed based on:

  • Voting history
  • Public positions (via candidate questionnaires)
  • Alignment with public education and community priorities
  • Electability

This process provides voters with clear, consistent guidance grounded in research. We are grateful to the volunteers who dedicated their time to this work, and to our Local Elections Committee Co-Chairs, TJ Callaway and Javan Gonzalez, for their leadership.
