Dallas County Voters Empowered, Encouraged to Vote (January 30, 2014)

DALLAS –  Hundreds of thousands of eligible and qualified Dallas County voters receive notices that their voter registration card and photo IDs do not match.

Statement by Dallas County Democratic Party Executive Director Taylor Holden:
"It shouldn't be this difficult. I was shocked to see the report about the nearly 200,000 notices and the case of an Irving couple, both with names that did not match. Our office has been flooded with calls from eligible and upset voters who fear that they will not be able to exercise their right to vote. We are doing everything we can to educate and empower voters and make sure they have what they need. We will call voters, we will knock on their doors, and we will do what Republicans won't -- protect the vote."

Statement by Dallas County Democratic Party Chair Darlene Ewing:
"Despite the best efforts of Republicans to keep Texas' women, minorities and students from the polls, we strongly encourage voters to go to the polls, sign an affidavit if needed, and make their voices heard. Republicans want us to be discouraged about jumping through hoops to vote and to stay home. Don't."
